BG96 sim error
-
Hello,
Somehow I get a sim error when I try to get IMSI or set current operator:/* Use AT+QCCID to query ICCID number of SIM card */ [2020-10-16 15:59:39:950_S:] AT+QCCID [2020-10-16 15:59:40:004_R:] AT+QCCID [2020-10-16 15:59:40:004_R:] +QCCID: 8988228000000XXXXXXX [2020-10-16 15:59:40:004_R:] OK /* Use AT+CIMI to query the IMSI of SIM card */ [2020-10-16 15:59:40:210_S:] AT+CIMI [2020-10-16 15:59:40:264_R:] AT+CIMI [2020-10-16 15:59:40:264_R:] ERROR [2020-10-16 15:59:52:402_S:] AT+COPS=1,2,"20416" [2020-10-16 15:59:52:457_R:] AT+COPS=1,2,"20416" [2020-10-16 15:59:52:457_R:] +CME ERROR: SIM failure
but it does read ICCID properly. Any idea what that could mean?

Have just rebooted EVB, now IMSI reading is ok, but still cant set the operator
/* Use AT+QCCID to query ICCID number of SIM card */ [2020-10-16 16:12:05:246_S:] AT+QCCID [2020-10-16 16:12:05:300_R:] AT+QCCID [2020-10-16 16:12:05:300_R:] +QCCID: 8988228000000XXXXXXX [2020-10-16 16:12:05:300_R:] OK /* Use AT+CIMI to query the IMSI of SIM card */ [2020-10-16 16:12:05:505_S:] AT+CIMI [2020-10-16 16:12:05:560_R:] AT+CIMI [2020-10-16 16:12:05:560_R:] 90XXXXXXXXXXXXXX [2020-10-16 16:12:05:560_R:] OK [2020-10-16 16:12:11:058_S:] AT+COPS=1,2,"20416" [2020-10-16 16:12:11:115_R:] AT+COPS=1,2,"20416" [2020-10-16 16:12:11:115_R:] +CME ERROR: SIM failure

Usually this really means that there 's still something wrong with reading the sim.
Can you please try what happens after removing and replacing the simcard in the card-holder?

have tried removing inserting a few times, but didnt help. inserted my own sim and it worked, so there is some problem with the sim somehow?
-
Hmm maybe! Can you send me the ICCID or IMSI via DM here?
-
@afzal_m done
-
Thanks! Just checked your sim-card settings and, everything looks fine from here.
Can you try it like this:
AT+COPS=1,2,"20416",9
I have to admit, I have no clue what the ā9ā does. However, this is how @Roalnd-Baldin wrote it here in our doclib.
-
@afzal_m I actually tried it with 9, it limits network connectivity to Nb-iot only, but no success still.
-
Thanks for the insight!
Iāll send you a new sim-card then.

@afzal_m Im wondering if the SIM gets locked up on the first device it was inserted into?
I have nrf9160 kit and Quectel evb. First I inserted it into nrf9160 and I could complete AT+COPS command successfully. The problem is that this modem doesnt support AT commands to connect with UDP via NB-IOT, so I switched to my Quectel board on which AT+COPS didnt want to work properly. -
Hey Sergey,
We do not have IMSI - IMEI lock configured. All our simcards should be able to work in mutiple devices. I double checked your sim-card configuration as well.
We do have some users who connected the nrf9160 via UDPā¦
@Eric-Barten (but heās offline this week) and @Stefan-de-Lange

Hi @afzal_m , thanks. I also contacted Quectel guys for help. But I tried 3 other different sims and AT+COPS succeed with them on Quectel EVB. Wonder if this could be connected with the fact that only NB-IOT is enabled for this SIM?

@afzal_m actually made a mistake about the module type, its BG600L, not BG96.
Now I switched to BG96 and was able to send a packet finally (thats the good news). Bad news is that module goes into power off mode after 30-60 seconds and Im not able to stop this. Would you have any advice? -
Good morning @afzal_m, is it possible this Sim requires 3v? This would explain weird behavior when the module provides only 1.8v
