      Roland Baldin

@Ronan-Lacroix I have a question: The min value for T3412 is only valid for the “extended” version of TAU ? Does the 1 hour apply also to the min. value of standard TAU or is it shorter?
Having a min TAU of 1 hour seems to me for many use cases difficult because the devices in those use cases need to wakeup from sleeping much more often (e.g. every 10 minutes).

Many many thanks for your support!

      Regards, Roland

@david-micallef said in RRC inactivity timer duration for NB-IoT and LTE-M:

On the Sara N3 there is a special command NSOSTF (https://www.u-blox.com/sites/default/files/SARA-N2-Application-Development_AppNote_%28UBX-16017368%29.pdf) but could not find any other module that supports this type of command.

@Stefan-de-Lange ,@David-Micallef Quectel BC95-G also has the NSOSTF command, see AT commands manual. And I’m assuming that their other modules (some of which are NB + LTE-M) will have that command too.

      Hello @Mikael-Guenais,
NB-IoT roaming is available in France via SFR. You can also always find up-to-date information on our roaming partners in our documentation library here.

I will contact you about the SIM card directly from our support email.

      Best regards
      Oliver

I second what Uta said for roaming use-cases.

For non-roaming use-cases, I would recommend to always set the band and the PLMN ID to ensure faster attach. So please be more patient with the attach time if you don’t set these values.

      Hi Matthew,

for NB-IoT there is a technical limitation of 1024 bytes (but this also includes the protocol information). According to our no harm to network guidelines you shouldn’t use more than 1 MB/device/month for NB-IoT.

      Hi,
thanks for your answers, very interesting information.
I’ll try it after that date.

Actually the device with the 1nce sim card goes into PSM sleep and also receives GPS-positions but wakes up all 15-20minutes. Also with longer sleep times.

      Kind regards,
      Christian

I can confirm the issue. I can reproduce it. The problem occurs not due to LTE-M but due to this specific APN (m2m.public.nl). @Uta will take care of this

Copy / paste what one of my colleagues wrote:

I must admit I am not sure regarding the polarization used on our cell sites, xn--an article stating that most operators use +/- 45-88b is probably correct. I’ll try to find out and let you know.

That said, knowing the base station antenna’s polarization is not as important as it might appear at first glance. In fact, it only matters in cases where a direct, uninterrupted, line-of-sight exists between the base station antenna and the UE antenna. In most practical cases, the signal the UE sees (and what the base station sees in the uplink case) is a mixture of signals that have been reflected off of and scattered by all kinds of objects (mountains, buildings, trees, vehicles etc.) in and around the line-of-sight. This is called “multipath”.

In a multipath environment, there is no way to predict the polarization of the signal at the receiving antenna, even if the polarization of the transmitting antenna is well known.

This is why the more complex variants of LTE (CAT.1 and above) require at least two antennas, which are typically set up to be sensitive to signals with different polarization.

Hi @uta, thanks for the tip. You’re right, I was using the wrong APN for the type of SIM I have. I have an easy connect SIM, and for that the APN should be just “iot.t-mobile.nl” it turns out (without the CDP bit). Now the UE attaches & registers to the network perfectly fine :D

      Hi all,

Please note that network time is now also provided over our LTE-M network in Germany, and can be retrieved with the usual AT commands (e.g. AT+CCLK?, AT+QLTS=2, …)

      Best regards,

Take this information with a grain of salt until we can get an expert on NB IoT technology to answer this question, but the CE level should be set by the modem based on the measured downlink received signal power and increased automatically when the random access preamble retransmission limit set for the current CE level by the network has been reached.
How long it takes to reach this limit depends on the limit and the period between retries (waiting for the network’s random access response).

3GPP and finding the right docs is always challenging and time consuming :-). But once you know the doc number it is well managed and organized to download it:

      3GPP document download

I assume you looking for R13 information? The following TS may be interesting

      TS36.331

However I have no clue at what power levels the MIBs and SIBs are broadcasted. (afaik you need to sync and collect some info before you can send out the RRC Connection Setup Request)

Maybe somebody else here has more radio experience and knows?

For anybody experiencing a similar issue:
The problem with the module in question (SARA-R510M8S HW rev. 00B) has been acknowledged by u-blox and they will have it resolved in their next hardware revision 01B.
Unfortunately, there will be no fix beyond Mario’s workaround from u-blox for hw revision 00B.
Thx to Mario for the thorough analysis and help in getting this issue resolved.
