from this comparison document I understand BC66 is a NB-IoT Cat NB1 device. Is NB1 supported by your provider? (I had the situation in Switzerland that the provider only supported Cat NB2.)

Also, are you sure about the band (e.g. 8)? Does that match the country you are in and the provider? See here.

according to documentation, after sending the message you’ll need to finish with CTRL+Z.

Input the data to be sent after > is responded. Tap Ctrl+Z to send the data, and tap Esc to cancel the operation.

I think for the SIM7080 you’ll need to provide 3.3 V to pin 36 on the connector which is labelled 3.3V(Out) else the voltage level shifter is not powered on the high side.

on the SIM7020 board the PWRKEY is permanently connected to GND which automatically powers the SIM7020 modem on. See schematic here.

In contrast on the SIM7080 board the PWRKEY is connected (through a transistor) to pin 19 on the connector and named PWR_EN (See schematic). Pin 19 corresponds to GP14 (See here : Pinout Definition).

So in order for the SIM7080 modem to turn on you need to send a LOW-HIGH-LOW pulse to GP14 (See here : section 3.2 Power on/Power off function).

What is the issue you are having with your SIMCom 7080 board which leads you to think it could be related to the SIM card?

according to the datasheet PON_TRIG is pulled down to GND by default. So I would not expect any difference in module behavior if you connect PON_TRIG to GND, but it seems to be unnecessary.

Yes, it is my understanding that if PON_TRIG is left alone (using the internal pull-down) that the module works normally and should not reset.

Note: no = sign.
This should tell you the current mode and the currently selected operator.
Also for my SIM7020G I use the following command to set the APN:

AT*MCGDEFCONT="IP","<APN>"

Note: * instead of + after the AT.

I am not sure, but I think a lot (if not all) provider use some kind of corporate NAT. That means 10.207.152.99 is not an IP reachable from the Internet.

In my experience APN m2m.public.nl allows the modem to reach a server on the Internet, but not the other way round.

Can you ping 10.207.152.99 from the Internet?

As a test you could try to make a TCP connection (as client) from your modem to a TCP sever on the Internet and then check the client IP address in the log of the TCP server. If it is different from the above IP address then you know your provider is using a corporate NAT.

that is a good question. While *MATREADY: 1 is listed as unsolicited result code in the SIM7020 AT document the description column is empty. And searching the Internet doesn’t really help either.

That said, my best guess would be that it means something like ‘Module AT READY’ or in other words the module is ready to accept AT commands.

not sure it has to do with the issue you are seeing, but I found some points you might want to check out.

afaik the 16850 has a nominal voltage of 3.7 V (and a maximum of 4.2 V). According to the SIM7020G datasheet, VBAT has a maximum input voltage of 3.6 V only.
in your schematic I don’t see any capacitors on the VBAT line. The reference design has five capacitors in parallel (2x 100 uF, 100 nF, 100 pF, 22 pF).
the UART interface lines are in the 1.8 V domain. Are you using some kind of level shifter (outside the schematic) to connect to your MCU (which most likely is 3.3 V or higher).
in the reference design the network status LED is connected via a transistor (and not direct as in your schematic).

Not sure, but below line looks like some ‘temporarily’ block for 15 minutes? With 210 seconds left?

Have you tried to issue a AT+COPS=? to see which networks actually are available for use with NB-IoT? (Note: can take some time to return the list of operators.)

as long as no certificate has been downloaded AT+CSETCA? will return an error - that happens for me too.

According to the documentation there is no AT+CSETCA=? (e.g. test) command - so I’d expect an ERROR response.

I am not aware of any specific precondition. Maybe with the exception that it might help to reboot the modem after every failed try to download to have a clean start.

the firmware version on my SIM7020G is 1910B05SIM7020G.

For me the read command AT+CSETCA? only returns OK if at least one certificate has been downloaded successfully. (I use this command to determine whether a specific certificate has already been downloaded or not.)

You probably think of the test command to determine about whether a command exists or not. But test commands typically end in =?.

I found downloading certificates into the SIM7020G is a tricky business and the method is quite different compared to other SIMCOM modems.

Anyhow, hopefully you get some useful information from the manufacturer.

what I mean by that is that even after a successful download of the complete certificate when I try to download it again (using the exact same commands) I get an “ERROR”. In other words for me when the certificate has been downloaded fully once (without ERROR) I cannot download it a second time. Only if I dis- and reconnect power I can download the certificate again one time.

Please also note: I am using a SIM7020G which most likely runs different firmware so my advise might not work with your modem version.

for me the SIM card provided with the NB-Iot starterkit also worked for LTE-M
to connect to my own server I used this APN: m2m.public.nl
I don’t think the dashboard is required when connecting to your own server
don’t know, but I guess the starterkit is limited to one station independent of the technology (NB-IoT or LTE-M) used

I don’t own an MKR NB 1500, but from the description here I understand the module supports both LTE-M and NB-IoT.

You write you’d like to use LTE-M. I think in this case you should use a different APN, e.g. m2m.public.nl. See here.

the pinger error 8 you are seeing means no DNS server have been set.

Looking at the at commands for the SARA-R5 module and the response you posted for the at+cgcontrdp=1 command it looks like ip addresses for primary and secondary DNS are missing.

+CGCONTRDP: 1,5,“iot.telekom.net.MNC040.MCC901.GPRS”,“10.213.137.2.255.0.0.0”,“10.0.0.1”,“”,“”,“”,“”,0,0,1500,0,0

The three IP addresses which are returned are IP, mask and gateway. However the next two entries (primary and secondary DNS) are empty strings.

The only command I’ve seen in the at command list to set DNS ip adress is AT+UPSD. If that is the correct command and how to use it I cannot say as I don’t have that particular modem to test myself.

Hopefully somebody more knowledgeable can help you with that.
